President Obama issues proclamation in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month
President Obama issued a proclamation today recognizing October 2011 as National Disability Employment Awareness Month.
He states: “More than 20 years after the signing of the Americans with Disabilities Act, individuals with disabilities, including injured veterans, are making immeasurable contributions to workplaces across our country. Unfortunately, the unemployment rate for people with disabilities remains too high -- nearly double the rate of people without disabilities -- and reversing this trend is crucial.”
“I urge all Americans to embrace the talents and skills that individuals with disabilities bring to our workplaces and communities and to promote the right to equal employment opportunity for all people.”

The Council’s mission is to advocate for and support people with developmental disabilities to exercise control over their lives and participate fully in the community.
The goal of the Developmental Disabilities Council is to effectively implement the Developmental Disabilities Assistance and Bill of Rights Act of 2000 in Louisiana. Presidential Proclamation--Military Family Month

BY THE PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA
A PROCLAMATION
Across America, military families inspire us all with their courage, strength, and deep devotion to our country. They endure the challenges of multiple deployments and moves; spend holidays and life milestones apart; juggle everyday tasks while a spouse, parent, son, or daughter is in harm's way; and honor the service of their loved ones and the memory of those lost.[excerpt from U.S. President Barack Obama announcement: Whitehouse.gov/The-Press-Office/2010/10/29/Presidential-Proclamation-Military-Family-Month]

There are many entities that effectively help military families  stateside and abroad.  We have recently learned about several that focus on providing special needs services to children of military personnel.

You can find many of them on your social networking sites!

We owe each day of security and freedom that we enjoy to the members of our Armed Forces and their families. Behind our brave service men and women, there are family members and loved ones who share in their sacrifice and provide unending support. During Military Family Month, we celebrate the exceptional contributions of our military families, and we reaffirm our commitments to these selfless individuals who exemplify the highest principles of our Nation.
