Parents, summertime is a good time to review the Grade Level Expectations (GLEs) and prepare your child for subjects in their next grade level. As Parents of a Student with a Developmental Disability, we are mindful of how relevant and relational the GLEs are to the IEP and our child's fulfillment of required academic and functional skills. First, we reflect on the previous year's GLEs and seek to reinforce any skills he did not understand or achieve.
Do you know what are your state's Grade Level Expectations?
Do you know how your district implements the GLEs, as it relates to the Comprehensive Curriculum?
Do you know when and how your child's school monitors/assess the GLEs?
Do you know your child's GLE's in respect to their Progress Reports/Report Cards?
As a Parent of a child with a Developmental Disability, we have high and realistic expectations regarding our son's academic progress. We expect our son to achieve. We expect our son to learn functional and academic skills. We expect our school system to educate him, not only according to perceived and assessed abilities, but, also with regard to our state's Grade Level Expectations. We expect appropriate Accommodations and Modifications and Supports and Services to help our son to matriculate in every aspect of school, including achieving Grade Level Expectations. We expect his school to afford him every opportunity to perform to the best of his abilities, including as it relates to the GLEs.

Curriculum
Comprehensive?
Students with disabilities must receive instruction on the Grade-Level Expectations
(GLEs) for the grade in which they are enrolled. State assessment items are derived
from the Standards, Benchmarks and GLEs, and students must have the opportunity
to learn the content. Of course, if a student needs remediation or the re-teaching of
requisite skills as part of the student’s IEP, then this instruction should occur. The
